My neighbor, 61, invited me to lunch at her favorite restaurant with another friend. “NO WAY” was my immediate reply that I may have voiced at a higher level because she took a few steps back. Do people eat with masks? No. They are removed and COVID transmit when people cough, sneeze or talk. No thank you. I will pass on that cup of COVID. TV has constant Support Our Restaurants segments and I think at what price? Our lives? A sneeze or a cough can send around 100,000 contagious germs at a speed of 100 miles per hour. My heart truly goes out to the impact COVID has had on restaurants but even at a 25 or 50 seat maximum, for me, at 73 it is a pandemic danger zone. My neighbor poo poo-ed my concerns asking if I wanted her to bring me back anything. I restrained myself from saying a well done pandemic and a side of COVID. Seriously!!! Historians will look back at this pandemic and ask WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!

100% agree… I don’t even like to sit outside away from everyone. Just having the wait staff hovering about is enough to freak me out at this point.
Me too!! It is scary how people refuse to believe that we are in the mist of a pandemic!
Stay safe. 🌿🌻🌿

I understand your point. But it kills me to think of the dire poverty restaurant workers ALREADY live in. This will be the nail in their(&their children’s) coffin.
We are all not made equal- of mind or spirit. Your brain and conscience helps you to decide for yourself- good for you !
Cheryl, I know. I think about that too, but at school we do order out and my grandson is an Anthony”s pizza lover but other than that, I cannot chance it.
Donna
Elena, thank you.
It has been brought to my attention that all the Statistics I have taught was not learned by the students. Because I still, after all these months, hear such CRAZY things about Covid. Even from people I consider intelligent. No, it doesn’t matter if someone is a friend. They still could have Covid! No, it does not matter that you didn’t get sick from doing x, y or z last time. You could get sick from doing it again. Sigh….. I have only been inside one building other than my home in the last 10 months, and that was a doctor’s office. It isn’t fun to be so careful. But it is necessary — and I’ve learned to create my own fun. Sigh…
Ann, this Christmas it was me and the tree! I do not know why people do not take this pandemic seriously.
Finding this site started by two great women has been my fun and creative outlet. Continue to stay safe and let us know how you are faring.

To Take Out (Take Away in England) is better. Pick up the delicious food and eat at home. When my daughter came to visit we did just that and enjoyed it immensely. No worries! But of course it will be nice to be able to go to a restaurant and have them serve you…sometime in the future. Sigh!
Nina, now that I have an empty nest, I use to love going out to eat. Beside the movies, it is another thing I have discovered that I truly missed, especially with my grandson. Someday!

OH MY GOD I see young hipster fools around here doing the same thing until thank God our mayor shut that down. Now they’re getting ready to open up again. Of course I love and want to support all our small businesses, including restaurants, but lives and safety MUST come first. I have not eaten out since last March. My youngest daughter is Director of Neurology for Advocate health system here in Chicago and she works as a neuro critical care attending physician. She makes it plain that even with the vaccine, which is an extra layer of protection NOT a prevention totally, we must continue distancing, wearing masks and washing our hands at all times. We will not be safe to eat out until we achieve herd immunity, and that is a ways away. You made the right choice! Too bad about your friends.
Allison what amazes me is the reopenings when we have been warned that COVID has mutated which makes it easier to catch!! Quarantine and.be there to celebrate the end of the pandemic.with your loved ones. 🌿🌻🌿

My sentiments exactly. Most people are more intent on doing what they want rather than what is good for all of us. We’ve been holed up like two old moles in this house for almost a year. We have had to sacrifice a lot but nothing is more important than our health at 80 and 81. Besides, we like each other and after 60 years of marriage, we’ve learned how to make the best of any situation as long as we can be together.
Patricia, how grand to be quarantined with a loved one and feel that you both are making the best of it. That is wonderful. Just imagine the happiness ahead when this is over!
Please stay in touch, it will be lovely to hear from you. 🌿🌻🌿

I totally agree with you! I’m 70, retired, wanting companionship, widowed three and a half years now. At the start of the year 2020 I felt like I was starting to climb out of some of the devastating grief and try joining some community activities, the the pandemic hit! I have scrapped plans to see relatives (including my 93 year old Mom). Sometimes I feel like throwing caution to the wind and enjoy them. But! This virus is Real People! So I’m at home mostly, wearing my mask, washing my hands, keeping my distance and every day praying for the patience and good sense to continue on….
Ruby, wise choice. This pandemic will only worsen, as you must have heard from your daughter, because of the mutation that makes COVID easier to catch. Quarantine is the choice that will enable you to celebrate the end of this pandemic with all your loved ones.

Ruby, apologies. I confused your reply with Allison’s. Being widowed, even after 31/2 years, during a pandemic must feel like step backwards but you have years ahead at 70 and with the vaccines, this pandemic will not be a forever situation. My friends and I are planning on a huge mask burning party! In the meantime there are chat and zoom sites to break up the day.
Let us know how you are faring. 🌿🌻🌿

Thanks Donna for your words. I am very grateful to be computer literate in these times it is a window out! Be safe!
Ruby, as I was in quarantine, I discovered that I would not make a good prisoner! It was hard. I am a preschool teacher at a private school, so at least I am out now, but after school back home, weekends too. I just feel that it too will pass and we can go about our normal lives. The question is when, but I feel I waited this long!
Ruby, you have a computer, write some articles for Elder Chicks. They would.be.most welcomed.

They weren’t thinking!
No, they were not BUT I think whereas the restaurants have been reopened people think Oh, it must be safe! It is the opposite especially since COVID has mutated which makes it easier to catch!!
Stay safe Irene and thank you for the input.
