Since I am somewhat disabled (and 88 years old) my walking, exercising and gardening are pretty limited. What I have done is read – I am on my 18th book since March 1st. Some were quickie mysteries, but many were much more serious endeavors. The one I enjoyed the most was A Gentleman in Moscow, followed by Old Filth. Didn’t want either of them to end! Americanah, An American Marriage, and The Water Dancer were also good. I am presently finishing up the third book in the Neapolitan novel series (Elena Ferrante) and realizing many ties to my southern Italian background. Not sure if these would be everyone’s cup of tea, but I am loving them. Now if only my eyes would stop hurting…. Well, I guess I asked for that!
So Much to Read by Mary Silverstein

Hi Mary, I haven’t seen them, but I believe Ferrante’s novels have been serialized on HBO. Fascinating, to me, is her choice of anonymity. Thanks for your always welcome recommendations.
Hi Mary. Like you, I am sufficiently disabled that reading is something I could be doing more of. And, i will check out your list–thank you. My lifelong favorite
site however is the bathroom—and I evidently don’t spend enough time there,
so my stack of books I want to read is not going down very fast. I should get
into the habit of reading in the living room, with my feet up on a stool.
All good choices.
I have read and thoroughly enjoyed most of the books you mentioned and will now look for Americanah and The Water Dancer on your recommendation…. I have recently read News of the World which I loved, and am now reading The Overstory which is an intense but enjoyable read.
Hi, Mary! Your post caught my eye because of one of the books you read: “A Gentleman in Moscow.” I read it, too, several months ago, and found it delightful! I must say, though, that I could not possibly read as many books as you do in such a short space of time — 18 books since the beginning of March. Wow!
Right now, I am in the middle of Sebastian Falks’ “Engleby,” a psychological thriller, I guess you could call it. I have a large pile of books awaiting attention, and they will get it as soon as I can give it, one book at a time.
I admire you for devoting so much time to literary pleasures.
