To be honest it doesn’t make sense to me. We’re supposed to be this super advanced species that are going to Mars in the next decade, yet we still discriminate by gender. It just doesn’t add up. I think a change would only come when both sides work together. Women standing up for their rights and man not objectifying women. If they just took a second to stop harassing their coworkers and admired them for the work they do, gender discrimination wouldn’t be what is today.

We are also discriminating by age and that is what I find most disconcerting. I am nearly 69 but I have had hell finding a decent work experience commensurate with both my age and my experience for 10 years. I look much younger–maybe ten years younger in fact–but I still look over 50. As soon as you present over 45 you are DONE –I cannot even get the interview or I am dismissed immediately! It’s terrible! Many of us are living longer and our social security is not enough. We need part time employment to supplement. However all the places that are like the ones I used to work at have children working there and they will not even entertain the possibility of someone in my age serving coffee to customers or something! It’s pretty shocking. We’ve been sidelined and kicked to the curb.
Hello Allison— it is more difficult to find employment as we age, no matter how young we may feel or look. There are venues where a mature employee is welcome. These may not be for everyone, but there is less age discrimination at libraries, cashiers at supermarkets, museum docents, guides, tutoring, and freelance writing. I know how you feel,, the older we get the younger our coworkers are.
