OK, I am a “senior citizen.” Still, although I am of two minds (at least) about the use and sale of marijuana, I am NOT of two minds about open carry. If I am in a store where someone is carrying a gun, I will walk out. Too many citizens of this country apparently believe that the Wild Wild West in almost two centuries ago, was the best of times. Guns are not being used for self-defense. In what seems to be most cases, guns are handy to use if you happen to disagree with someone or not like what they say or stand for. I am much more reluctant than before to protest some injustice because of the fear that the person doing the injustice has a gun.
As for marijuana, although I do not believe that people should go to jail for possession and that perhaps it is OK to smoke, I worry about overuse, about its long-term or for that matter short-term effects on all aspects of life, especially the lives of younger people. While I can hope that the young people we have raised or that our children have raised are sensible enough to make decisions about marijuana, they cannot protect themselves against the insane laws being promulgated about open carry guns and against the people who carry them.
I do not like USA re its lax gun laws. With legalized pot (in Canada where I live – medical pot by prescription), guess it might change criminals to be business folk.
No different I suppose from booze and tobacco.
I find it unhelpful to our grandchildren and theirs.
😦
Amen, Sister!!
Your state has open carry laws? Thanks for sharing your opinion. I happen to believe that broad, general statements cannot be made about guns or marijuana – there is abuse of each. Florida does not allow open carry but it does have a rigid process to obtain a Concealed Weapons Permit (not open carry) but reality is that gangsters & criminals don’t care about permits for guns or laws for marijuana. We cannot take rights away from law-abiding citizens due to the criminal behavior of the criminals.
No my state does not have an open carry law, but I will not go to those who do. I do not believe that any citizen should have the right to a concealed weapon except those in law enforcement and perhaps not even them.
