Welcome to Rochester! by Tricia

Good evening, elder chicks! My name is Tricia and I live in Rochester, NY, USA. I feel I live in a wonderful city where there is culture in the form of a great philharmonic orchestra, a great playhouse, an international film festival and jazz festival. We are surrounded by the beautiful Finger Lakes known for its wines, deep lakes and shorelines. For those of you who love rock n roll, this is the home of Steve Gadd (drummer extrordinaire) and Lou Gramm from Foreigner. Great headliners come here for summer concerts as well. We are also surrounded by the beautiful Bristol Hills and many, many parks. Two of which were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. Letchworth Park, a state park built by the CCC’s is gorgeous. Also, we are one hour away from Niagara Falls, one of the wonders of the world!
I hail from a small town about 1/2 hour away called Canandaigua nestled on one of the Finger Lakes, meaning “Chosen Spot” in the Indian language. This town equates to the town mentioned in Hillary Clinton’s “It Takes A Village”. I was so lucky to grow up with the values and ethics of its citizens.
Granted, it’s a bit chilly here at the moment. But as my Mom always said: this too shall pass!

Born and raised in Albion, NY on Rt. 104/31 between Buffalo & Rochester. Graduated from nursing school in Rochester. Was in Canandaigua over New Years, as have family living there. Also friends in Newark. A beautiful area, for sure.
I felt real warmth in January when I talked about The New Senior Woman at St. John’s Living. My first time in Rochester – so beautiful, sophisticated and welcoming.
Rochester area is a wonderful place to grow up. With family history in Albion and Canadaigua there are many areas of interest. But, your right. It is cold right now, but as they say in Rochester, “wait 5 minutes and it will change.”
I was born in Rochester and lived there while I was growing up, but then moved to Long Island and then to San Diego 12 years ago. I don’t miss the cold weather, but I still remember Rochester as being a special place for me. I loved the Eastman School of Music and all the other aspects of culture there. I especially loved visiting Highland Park with all the beautiful lilacs and Letchworth Park with all its beauty.
Claire Kinnear, I remember your name. My cousin Cheryl Dexter grew up next door to a Claire Kinnear on Pinnacle Rd. Is that you? If so, she would love to hear from you. Please let me know if you are the same Claire she knew as a young child.
Hi, Tricia. I live nearby in Victor.
May I add Chuck & Gap Mangione to your list of homegrown talent? I recently recalled & downloaded two old favorite hits of Chuck’s to my I-Pod.
Also, please reserve a spot for beautiful Lake Ontario beside which I am privileged to own a home. Although we have had to cope with fierce winter winds & plenty of snow, spring is almost sprung & I can once again see the sunrise here in Irondequoit (where the land meets the waters).
