My husband and I thought quite about about living arrangements as we aged. We decided to leave our 4 acres in the country which we had enjoyed and was terrific when we were in our 50s and 60s. Upon approaching 80 we would return to our urban roots. Not only were there a wealth of intellectual entertainments we could enjoy, both as audience and active volunteer ushers, but there was public transportation and two daughters only blocks away. The change in lifestyle has suited us very well. It is very nice to have family nearby and we are all mutually supportive of each other, from meeting frequently for brief times, informally sharing a meal, or letting our dogs out if we (or they) need to be gone for a period of time.
