I have been intending to write to you about my activity which has grown far more than my expectation. About twelve years ago, after retiring from teaching instrumental music and performing in the local symphony orchestra, I organized an orchestra of local community orchestra with people of all ages.It is called Toms River Multigenerational Orchestra. A half dozen of our members are over the age of 80. We have teenagers and people of all ages in between. Some of the adults had their first music lesson when they were in their 50s or 60s. I still teach violin and viola. Some had played in orchestra or band when they were in school, putting their instruments away for many years. This is their opportunity to enjoy playing in an ensemble again. We have been performing in nursing and assisted living facilities, libraries. We have had so many requests for our performances that it becomes difficult to not have date conflicts. I train our members in the skill of orchestra playing and sometimes chamber music. I conduct every performance.
Even though I am 81 years old, I do not have time for idleness.
This is so wonderful! I feel exactly the same although I am only nearly 65. I need to constantly keep things moving in my life. It helps that I live in an urban community and have many friends younger than me. I just started my own blog to showcase my work as a writer, musician and performer. Hope you like it!
