I live in Wyoming which is a gun-totin’ state. I recently went to a “listening session” with my Senator, Mike Enzi. I asked him why there was so much opposition by gun owners to background checks. He responded by saying he didn’t want to have to go through a background check if he wanted to go shooting with his grandson. I tried to point out that once you have passed a background check that would not happen. He responded to that by saying he didn’t believe in compromise. This is a typical response by our “representatives” in Washington because they are terrified of the NRA. I don’t know what more I can do except support Moms Demand Action.

Everyone who buys a new gun from an FFL dealer goes through an FBI NICS background check, and that is true at gun shows too – no exceptions for licensed dealers.
However I have a proposal for universal background checks here that I think gun owners could support:

Hello, Wyoming.
Good for you for being active about gun registration. The man was spewing the
same garbage the ‘believers’ always do.
“Don’t tread on me!” was not coined for them. I am glad to you take the action that you plan. We simply cannot allow the plethora of guns that, mostly, have
nothing to do with hunting for food for our families but are daily used for food
for undertakers and courts.
But this is just preaching to the believers, I guess.
Thanks, Leah from Phila., PA
Thank you for the first-person, real-life anecdotal evidence of an attitude that seems to be becoming the norm in a system that was meant to progress through compromise. While it is disheartening, your inclusion of a place to take our disagreement with your senator’s stance is much appreciated.
I wonder how Senator Enzi feels about people who drive without driver’s licenses. Or uninsured drivers who hit his car. Well I don’t feel so good about people who tote guns without passing serious tests or background checks.
