It has been so wonderful reading what everyone has shared about their pets. I also have had great pets. They have never been purebred or purchased but rather animals that no one else wanted. As an adult, my first dog was a cocker spaniel/ toy collie cross. Alpha was brought to the vet clinic to be put to sleep because she was incorrigible. The vet had an intern who was looking for a dog to practice spaying. They operated on Alpha, and she lived. She needed a home so I took her. She was the smart loving animal who loved popcorn but wouldn’t eat it until I said she could. If you gave her a bone, she took it to the door and stood patiently until she could take it outside. When my son was born, she sat by the basinet watching over him as he slept. She died at age 13. When I was divorced, a friend thought I needed a pet, so she gave me a cat someone didn’t want. This cat was pregnant and practically delivered her kittens on my lap. Her litter of four included two Siamese kittens. I gave three of the kittens away and kept the fourth. These two cats lived to be 20 and 21 years old. Now I am “pet less,” but perhaps another animal will come along that needs a home.
