Marge Dugan died in 1988 – just a few months before her granddaughter Jorie (my daughter) was born. Sadly, they missed each other by a few months — though I have some sense that Mom may have sent her my way.
Mother was a special person — one who was kind and welcoming to all, kept confidences (she was the trusted confidant of ALL my father’s and her own sisters!) and never remembered what she did or gave to others. And she was smart. While quiet and modest, she held her own with a devoted husband who was larger than life — literally and figuratively.
She also could not stand the power of television over her family. One evening when all of us were engrossed in some television program, Mom marched into the room in her nightgown, blowing a toy whistle and marching around with a lampshade on her head. Clearly, she captured our attention — and TV was put on hold for the remainder of the evening. Just one of many wonderful memories of a wonderful woman — with whom I was fortunate to be able to call both mother and friend.
I love that image! A feisty woman. And I bet many moms now would like to do the same while their kids are totally involved in texting.
This picture brought tears when I saw this picture..what GREAT memories! I will always remember Mom (former Mother-In-Law), as a second Mom. She was the most “WONDERFUL” lady you could know. Giving of her heart was what Mom was all about…and she did this every single day! If you were sad, she was right there to pick you up, and when you were happy, you knew her heart was smiling for you. I was so blessed to have known her and so sadly missed.
