My reading now is centered on Art History. I was accepted into the weekend guide two year training program at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It’s FASCINATING!! I NEVER liked history when I was young, but learning about the world and time periods through researching objects of art (rather than power and war) is a whole new approach to history that totally energizes me!
I have unloaded a library (17 boxes) and now am an ardent proponent of using the Philadelphia Central Library. I love registering online for the book I want and going to the library when it’s in.
So far, I’m not a Kindle or iPad user. I have always liked holding books, dogearing pages and underlining what’s important to me! (Of course, never with library books!) [Leave a comment here.]

Well, i dislike the term “elder chicks”. Just because one is past 65 or 70 or older, does not mean one has to think like one. Better to have a mindset that says age “55”. And mix with the younger set– that is one way to act and feel younger. Above all, keep busy with projects or paid employment, TRAVEL and WORK OUT!
I’m with you, June. I write in every book I read. That’s why I like to own them instead of getting them from the library. I underline, write questions, comments, refer to past pages, put several page numbers together in the margins when I see related events or insights in the story. Whether I’m reading fiction or non- I like to think I’m having a conversation with the author.
I often read books twice, and my earlier observations in the margins enhance the second reading. And I happen to be a technology junkie! But Kindles and the like just don’t do it for me. If the book is too big to carry around, I tear it in half and wrap it with a rubber band when I’m ready to put it back on the shelf.
People say that books are too sacred to “destroy”. It’s not that books are not sacred to me. It’s that I value them so much that I totally possess them.
I too am from Philly. I will only use the library. I too like to hold the book and also hold a newspaper. I love art, art history, ( I own an art gallery) also love mystery books. I live now in a small town and would like to move to a big city. I would like to explore new ideas and other creative activities.
